Cuttalossa Valley
Cuttalossa Creek, from the mid 1700s to the 1800s, was used to power grist mills (where grains are ground into flour), saw mills, and a sash, window, and door factory. Cuttalossa Valley is not only known for its lush scenery carpeted with rhododendron flowers and gentle flowing streams, but the numerous well known people who have, over the years, visited and resided in this picturesque valley. Some notable people who once lived in Cuttalossa Valley are artist Daniel Gerber, poet John Greenleaf Whittier and even General Zebulon Montgomery Pike, known for coining the name Pikes Peak in Colorado. Most recently the federal government recognized Cuttalossa Valley as a National Historic District due to the culmination of historical figures who added to the rich history of this valley.
