Aldie Mansion
Aldie Mansion was built in 1927 and served as the private residence of William and Martha Mercer. William, who is the younger brother of Henry Mercer (a well known tile maker and creator of the Mercer Museum) was inspired by the Tudor architectural style that spread throughout England during the Tudor period, and in building the Aldie Mansion he adorned it with gargoyles, intricate brickwork, and antique tiles that he had created himself. After William's wife Martha died in 1960, the mansion changed owners until, in 1987, the Heritage Conservancy was given permission to, slowly but surely, piece back together the mansion and restore it to its former glory.
