Get To Know Me

My Background

Alex is a senior at New Hope-Solebury High School, where she is part of many volunteer clubs, including Key Club which annually participates in the Adopt-A-Child for the holidays program, as well as National Honors Society. As President of her school’s Future Business Leaders of America club, Alex is able to explore the multifaceted jobs of the business world and has competed in several competitive events, such as Advertising, where she placed seventh in States. Alex is also passionate about writing and is a staff writer and Features Editor for her school’s newspaper, The Lion's Tale, which was awarded first place honors by the American Scholastic Association last year. In addition to expressing her voice through writing, Alex has gained experience learning about diplomacy and international relations In the Model United Nations club, where students can represent countries from all over the world and debate current world issues. During her free time, Alex enjoys hanging out with her peers and playing for her high school’s Girls Varsity Tennis Team. This year marks her 8th year in Girl Scouts, and so far Alex has completed her Bronze and Silver Awards, one of which she was able to collaborate with her local SPCA to help create no-sew blankets for adopted cats. For her Gold Award, Alex wanted to provide an educational and interactive experience for children and families to learn more about Bucks County's rich history.

ABOUT MY PROJECT

Looking back at the 7 years I have lived here in Bucks County, I would consider myself lucky to have grown up in such a serene and historic area. Although I didn't know any better back then, I now realize how rare it is to say that you grew up mere miles from where George Washington and the Continental Army crossed the Delaware River. As society progresses and technology continues to play an all-consuming role in our daily lives, I wanted to make sure that people, especially children, can remain connected to nature and the outdoors while simultaneously learning about the historical roots of where they live. I wanted to take advantage of Bucks County's immense history and incorporate that into geocaching. I hope that my project can serve as a gentle reminder for us all to continue to honor and acknowledge our country's rich past as we move forward into the future.
