Bowman's Hill Tower
This tower stands 125 feet tall, is made of fieldstone, and looms over Bowman's Hill and the rest of the wildflower preservation. Although this tower was only built from 1929-1931, it serves to commemorate what may have been a lookout point for George Washington's troops to watch for enemy activity on the Delaware river as they prepared for battle. On December 26, 1776, Washington and his troops crossed the river into Trenton, NJ, and attacked the Hessians on Christmas morning, winning a key battle in the American Revolution. In order to make the surroundings of the tower appear as they would've back in Washington's time, over 28,300 seedlings were planted on the hillside. To this day, 700 of the 2,000 plant species native to Pennsylvania thrive at Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve.
